Susan Sarandon Bio

It was just after the 1968 Democratic convention, and there was an audition to a film that had several parts for youth who had disrupted the convention. Two recent graduates from Catholic University in Washington DC, went to the auditions in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon, who had been studying to become an actor, was not selected by. His wife Susan received a big role.That role was as Susan Compton who was the daughter of an ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the film Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer friend and then befriends Joe (Peter Boyle)-- an outspoken scumbag who works on an assembly line , and who collects guns.Five years after, Sarandon made the film that fans of the cult classics have come to recognize her as Janet who is involved with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). More than 15 years after starting her career, Sarandon was finally active in a campaign to be cast in a memorable role, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), traveling herself from Rome to Los Angeles. She stated "It was such an amazing script... it removed a number of myths and challenged America's definition of what success is". "I attended the film studio along together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his sexy assistants before getting back on the plane. Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, had already produced two sons by the year 1992 and allowed Sarandon in a position in which she was able to leave her home and be able to take on more difficult roles. This led to four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s and for the best actress in Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980) was her first Academy Award nomination.
